Good letter Lance! I belive you are right about Garland and probably about Biden. Oh to have had Jones as the AG - it would have been a very different outcome. I think with Garland it was just business as usual. After reading Tristen Snell's book about the DOJ, it was apparent that cases move at a glacial speed. We just didn't have the time for that and if they were assuming that Trump would not retake the presidency then I guess that was a bad assumption. We didn't have 10 years for this to come full circle for Trump to be held accountable for his many crimes but especially J6 & the docs case.

I've been wondering what has happened with the J6 report that Smith was working on for the DOJ. Garland said he'd release it and it seems to me that he needs to get on it. They have about 2 weeks before TFG will be able to quash it like a bug. I hope the American public gets to see what Smith found in his investigation if nothing more. The justice system has failed us on this one and the cost to democracy is hard to imagine.

Thanks for writing on this.

Thank you for your insights, which I agree with and like you would like to wish them away because this is very painful.

I helped elect and defend this President to try and stop our slide into autocracy and chaos. Many people celebrated the end of Trump and MAGA when Biden was sworn in. I didn't. Why? I heard the words "bipartisanship and healing," in his speech and I almost threw up. I asked myself whether Lincoln had ever said such words in the aftermath of the attack on Fort Sumter. They attacked our Capitol. The flew Confederate flags and wore QAnon and Auschwitz T-Shirts. They brought Bear spray and zip ties and built a gallows to start executing people. They had weapons stashed right outside the city limits and were waiting for a "go" signal to deploy them.

And Joe wanted bipartisanship and healing with that?

History was calling upon him to be a Lincoln. Instead he decided to be a technocrat that would deliver jobs and prove to the anti-government fanatics that government works. And he relied upon his old friends in the Senate like McConnell and Graham to be his allies, to work with him. Joe blinded himself, to the fact that they were irreversibly corrupt or broken, and would obstruct him on every front.

I was crestfallen after his inaugural, because I foresaw something like Merrick Garland's failure on the horizon. Biden's call for "healing" was in my mind a virtual announcement that his policy on Trump was "hands off." Therefore he made the tragic decision to appoint a bureaucrat who masked his very political methods behind a facade of being apolitical.

I wrote about this problem for four years, looking ahead to 2022 and 2024 and a potential catastrophe like we have now.

If Biden had fired Garland two years ago, the world would be much different today.

"If." Is that not the worst word in the dictionary at a time like this when we so badly need certainty?

When Biden didn't insist that Trump be prosecuted, that decision gave him permission to do whatever he wanted for then and forever.

If Biden thought by letting Trump off the hook he would be contrite and urge his underlings in Congress to cooperate and compromise, he was completely delusional.

All these people understand is strong arm demands and force.

They think compromise is the biggest show of weakness and is intolerable in any way.

I know Biden prefers to give people the benefit of the doubt and believes in the goodness of people but come on, when did he ever see any behavior whatsoever from MAGAts that led him to optimistically hope they would ever compromise on anything?

Every time Democrats gave in to MAGAts in the hopes that they would be reasonable and return the favor they got screwed with MAGAts laughing and thinking, "I can't believe they fell for it again!"
